Local Issues That Matter
Standing Up for the Lowcountry. Focused on the Priorities That Shape Our Daily Lives.
The Lowcountry is unlike any place in America—and the issues we face require leadership that understands the stakes. I’ve spent years listening to families across Beaufort, Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties. These are the challenges people bring up at their dinner tables, in their small businesses, and in their neighborhoods.
Below are the local issues that matter most to our community and the approach I bring to each one—rooted in accountability, service, and real results for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District.
1
Protecting Our Coastline and Waterways
The Lowcountry’s natural beauty is part of who we are. On Beaufort County Council, I helped pass the Green Space Referendum to preserve land, protect water quality, and keep our region unique.
I’ve stood firm against irresponsible development that threatens our marshes, rivers, and coastline.

In Congress, I will continue supporting policies that strengthen coastal resilience, protect public access to waterways, and ensure growth is responsible, not reckless.
2
Responsible Growth & Infrastructure Planning
Growth is coming to the Lowcountry whether we like it or not, but how we manage it determines our future.
I opposed unnecessary upzoning and pushed back on development that strains our roads, schools, and neighborhoods.

We need stronger infrastructure planning, smarter land use decisions, and transparency every step of the way so residents—not special interests—shape how our communities grow.
3
Supporting Our Schools, Teachers & Families
Before serving in public office, I was an elementary school teacher. I saw firsthand the challenges our kids, parents, and educators face.
That is why I helped make Beaufort County home to one of the highest starting teacher pay rates in South Carolina.

I believe every child should have access to a safe school, strong academic standards, and an environment where parents are respected and engaged.
4
Strengthening the Local Economy & Small Businesses
Our region thrives when small businesses thrive. As a former small-business family member myself, I know how hard entrepreneurs work and how essential they are to our communities.
On County Council, I supported policies that lowered taxes and cut red tape.

In Congress, I will continue advocating for economic policies that support job creation, keep more money in the pockets of working families, and help small businesses grow.
5
Protecting Taxpayers & Promoting Fiscal Responsibility
Families across South Carolina are stretched thin by rising costs. When I served on Council, I fought to lower taxes and ensure government worked efficiently and transparently.

I believe taxpayers deserve accountability, honesty, and spending that reflects real community priorities—not wasteful bureaucracy.
6
Public Safety & Community Security
Safety is the foundation of a strong community. I support our law enforcement officers and first responders who work every day to protect our families.
I believe in giving them the tools and training they need while ensuring our justice system works fairly and effectively.

Keeping the Lowcountry safe means addressing crime, supporting officers, and strengthening coordination across agencies.
7
Local Transportation & Quality of Life
Whether it’s Highway 170, U.S. 278, I-26, or the routes connecting our coastal communities, transportation is a daily challenge for residents.
Growth without infrastructure planning leads to congestion that hurts families and small businesses.

I support commonsense road improvements, strategic transit planning, and investments that keep the Lowcountry moving.
8
Preserving the Lowcountry Way of Life
Everything above—our coast, our schools, our safety, our economy—comes back to one central goal: protecting the Lowcountry way of life.
This region deserves leadership that listens, shows up, and puts local families first.

This will always be my priority.
